Here we go again. The 'n' in the ir500dn means it has the network print option installed. You cannot upgrade a 'd' bootrom to a 'n' bootrom. 'd' bootrom needs to go with 'd' system software and visi versa. The service support tool will not allow you to flash the wrong firmware to the copier. The only difference between a 'd' and an 'n' is the bootrom and the system firmware, the RUI and language are the same. You also need a network card for the copier.

The network firmware will error out if it doesnt find the network card. Yes, you need the network card even if you only plan to print thru the parallel port. So, in short, to make a 5000d print you need to replace the bootrom, install the network card and install 5000n firmware using service support tool. Doubling up on the memory is highly recommended for printing.
It is standard computer memory. I believe it is either PC100 or PC133, it will say on the existing chip which it is. Ok, I didn't mention that the original Boot-Rom ( labeled as 'C' ) was already replaced with a new one ( labeled 'DN' ). But the SST still says model found '5000d' and so the firmware for the selected model '5000n' does not fit.
Shouldn't the SST or even the copier itself see an '5000dn' version if the Boot-Rom was really a '5000DN'? I doubt if the new boot rom is really a 'dn', it was taken from an other copier, but maybe the tech mixed it up with another rom, could he? ( before someone says 'go and ask your tech': he's now for 3 weeks on holiday, but our customer can't wait that long.
